Reading buses test new hybrid upgrades

Reading Buses is testing new technology with planned upgrades of two double-decks to incorporate a stop-start system and a plug-in electric hybrid. Reading Buses chief engineer John Bickerton says he is “pushing the powertrain technology envelope beyond the present capability of existing suppliers”, announcing plans to use Vantage Power’s series-hybrid system in one vehicle and Magtec’s plug-in-electric drivetrain with a small CNG engine to extend the range of the second bus.
