Reading Buses trial new bus types to speed up popular Route 17

Reading Buses is currently trialing different vehicles and propulsion systems on its popular purple 17 route between Wokingham Road, Three Tuns and Tilehurst Water Tower.

The cross town route, which operates 24/7 up to every 7 minutes, is Reading's most popular bus route and can trace its origins back to trolley bus and tram days over 100 years’ ago.

A blue and silver 'Vantage Power' bus has been testing a new type of electric-hybrid powertrain that could be retrofitted into existing buses to help reduce carbon emissions and operate on pure electric mode in the town centre zone.
