Mechanical Engineer Overview You will be part of the Electrification R&D Mechanical Systems team working on advanced engineering and R&D projects for a global Tier-1 manufacturer of propulsion products for commercial and defence vehicles. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and your project lead. Projects are undertaken at the company’s R&D hub in Greenford, London which is a fast-paced environment with small, agile teams. Achieving your goals will be challenging but immensely rewarding, and you will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of initiative, autonomy, perseverance, dedication and willingness to pivot tasks.Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. Responsibilities and ActivitiesDesign for manufacture of components and assemblies for electrification R&D projects; Documentation of design requirements, undertaking design reviews and creating assembly drawings; FEA of designed components;Assist with the creation of test plans and orchestrate product verification testing for novel design solutions; Liaising with supply chain team and manufacturers to discuss materials, production techniques and feasibility of production; Analysis and elucidation of design testing results data for dissemination across wider group and use as input for future projects/improvements; Development and implementation of mechanical team process/capability improvements.Skills and ExperienceRequired:BEng degree in relevant engineering field, MEng preferred;Confident grasp of drawing for manufacture and GD&T, preferably to BS8888;Solid command of a CAD modelling software, preferably Siemens NX;Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques for sheet metal, extrusions, plastic components and machining;Demonstrable ability of presenting requirements, design solutions and test results within matrix project teams and fabrication/manufacturing partners;Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques incl. additive manufacturing;High attention to detail;2+ years’ experience in relevant industry preferably with automotive hybrid/electric powertrains insight.Desirable:Experience working on HV systems;General workshop/assembly skills;Experience and confidence with FEA;Experience with 3D scanning mesh generation and inspection techniques.
