You will be part of the Electrification R&D Mechanical Systems Team working on the development of electrified propulsion and energy storage technology for commercial electric vehicles. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and your project lead. Achieving your goals will be challenging but immensely rewarding, and you will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of initiative, autonomy, perseverance and dedication.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. Candidates already in the UK and working under Tier 2 Sponsorship will also be considered.

Responsibilities and Activities

  • Use experimental and analytical mindset to work with engineers and the Program Manager to create appropriate  test and evaluation programmes for electrification R&D projects at component, sub-system, large assembly or vehicle level;
  • Carry out component and system level test activities to analyse system performance metrics – typically functional, thermal, electrical;
  • Gather and analyse test data to help direct company technology strategies;
  • Work with external test houses to conduct durability test programmes such as mechanical vibration/shock and thermal shock, as well as safety and abuse tests;
  • Report writing of test results and presentation to senior level staff and the wider business;
  • Specify test equipment and request facilities upgrades as needed to deliver;
  • Construct work packages and assist with project planning;
  • Carry out risk assessments for test activities and provide input to H&S;
  • Hand calculations, and 0d/1d calculations/simulations to develop hypotheses to test and verify against.

Skills and Experience


  • Mechanical Engineering Honours Degree or similar;
  • Passionate about testing, analysis, and the electrification of commercial vehicles;
  • Good understanding of automotive electric powertrains, systems and types of components;
  • Proficient at data processing and data analysis, preferably using MATLAB;
  • Confident at designing, setting up and running test programmes for innovative and novel systems;
  • Experience with automotive industry standards for shock, vibration and thermal cycling and specifying tests against them;
  • Experienced in creating work package documents and/or test requests;
  • Experience of managing external test resource to deliver validation programmes;
  • Capable of writing conclusive test reports and presenting findings to the wider business;
  • High attention to detail and discipline at following test procedures correctly;
  • Comfortable working in new technology areas with high levels uncertainty and ambiguity.


  • Experience conducting vehicle level testing;
  • Experience using 3D CAD modelling software preferably Autodesk Inventor;
  • Confident grasp of drawing for manufacture and GDT, preferably to BS8888;
  • Experience working on HV systems;
  • Experience with other analytical and simulation tools.
